- Parents and Families – The hub for parents and families of Virginia Tech students. Provides information about events, dates, and activities for parents, family, and students.
- Hokie Family E-Newsletter – A monthly electronic newsletter that keeps parents and families better informed of campus activities, events, and deadlines that affect the lives of Virginia Tech students.
- Virginia Tech Parent Email – If you have any questions or concerns and don’t know whom to ask, start by emailing us at email@example.com.
- Hokie SPA Guest Access – The guest account feature on Hokie SPA allows a student to release their financial aid information, such as the award letter, requirements to receive aid, financial aid holds, academic progress, cost of attendance, and/or loan history, to selected individuals.
- Hokie Parent Reading List (PDF) – A collection of books written for parents of college-bound students.
- Orientation Leader Discussion List (PDF) – A list of topics that Orientation Leaders discuss with new students during Orientation.
- Services for Students with Disabilities – If your student has a disability and requires any assistance while at Virginia Tech, call 540-231-0858.
- Risk Management – The Insurance & Risk Management Office handles all insurance matters, including claims, for the University. In addition, the office provides risk analysis for various University activities and management of the Student Medical Insurance program.
- Student Success Center – The Student Success Center offers free academic support, such as tutoring and study skills seminars to undergraduate students at Virginia Tech.
- Mail Services – Information can be found through Mail Services if you want to send your student letters or packages.
- Education Abroad – Is your student interested in studying abroad? Education Abroad challenges students to engage with the world by providing study abroad opportunities that are academically, culturally, and personally enriching. Offers programs that meet the needs and budget of every Virginia Tech student with more than 200 options in more than 60 countries around the world.
- Fall Family Weekend – Families of students are invited to visit campus and enjoy university-centric events during the fall semester. Students, faculty, and staff are all invited to join in with their families.
- Cook Counseling Center – If your student is having trouble in school or feels like they may need counseling services, they can contact Cook Counseling Center. Services at Cook Counseling Center are free to fulltime students who have paid their student health fee.
- Hokie Passport Services: The Hokie Passport ID card is the official identification card for Virginia Tech. It also contains all of the monetary accounts for students. Navigate to Hokie Passport Services to add money to your student’s Hokie Passport accounts.

As faculty or staff members of Virginia Tech, we realize that you have a close relationship to students at the university. Below are resources that are available to you in handling specific situations.
- Bias Incident Protocol (PDF) – Acts of intolerance require a response that asks all members of our community to uphold our shared values as outlined in the Virginia Tech Principles of Community. Since incidents often fall beyond the reach of policy and laws, it is imperative that we respond as a unified community to denounce such behavior.
- Threat Assessment – The mission of the Threat Assessment Team is to determine if an individual poses, or may reasonably pose, a threat of violence to self, others, or the Virginia Tech community and to intervene to avert the thread and maintain the safety of the situation.
- Cranwell International Center – Committed to the university's globalization initiatives and serve as the primary support service for the international community.
- Cook Counseling Center Non-Emergency Referral Form (PDF) – Faculty and staff have important insight into the concerns of the students they come in contact with. Cook Counseling Center values this input and any referrals that you feel are appropriate to make.
Dean of Students Reporting System
The Dean of Students Office at Virginia Tech continues to partner with faculty and staff members to support students for whom any of us have a concern. Over the years, concerns have been shared through phone, email, and face-to-face contact with staff in the Dean of Students Office. These referrals have often enabled staff members in the Division of Student Affairs to assist students toward their pursuit of success in and outside of the classroom.
To further complement the ongoing efforts to address recommendations of the 4/16 Governor’s Review Panel, the Dean of Students Office at Virginia Tech is now offering a tool for faculty and staff members to use in sharing concern for a student.
Faculty and staff members are encouraged to share concern for a student with the Dean of Students Office, enabling a more complete profile of the student in distress. The system is in place as one more available tool to report a concern. Phone calls to the Dean of Students Office are still welcomed and encouraged. As always, matters needing immediate attention should be directed to the Virginia Tech Police Department at 540-231-6411.
This is not a system to use for emergencies.
Faculty Access: The Dean of Students Reporting System is available within the Hokie SPA/Faculty Access Menu. Faculty members have the ability to report a concern for any student assigned to them, either enrolled in a course or as an advisee.
Staff Access: Deans, department heads, and directors are strongly encouraged to identify critical staff members who they wish to have access to the Dean of Students reporting system. Deans, department heads, and directors will need to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the name of the critical staff member they wish to have registered for the reporting system.
